Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) has released the official notification for the Indian Forest Service Examination 2018. The Preliminary Exam is scheduled to be held on 3rd June 2018.

The Indian Forest Service Examination 2018 is to be held for recruitment to the Services and various Posts of Indian Forest Department.


Eligibility Criteria : 

Age Limit

21-32 Years (As of 01 Aug 2018).

There are permissible relaxation of upper age limit as per Government orders. Here are the most common relaxations :

SC/ST5 years
OBC3 years
Defense Services Personnel3 years
EX-SM5 Years
PH10 years
PH SC/ST/EX-SM15 years

The candidate must hold a Bachelors degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Also Any candidate who have appeared at an examination and awaiting for the results can also apply for Indian Forest Services Examination.

  • An attempt at a Preliminary Examination shall be deemed to be an attempt at the Civil Services Examination.
  • If a candidate actually appears in any one paper in the Preliminary Examination, he/she shall be deemed to have made an attempt at the Examination.
  • Notwithstanding the disqualification/cancellation of candidature, the fact of appearance of the candidate at the examination will count as an attempt.

A candidate must be either:

  • A citizen of India, 
  • A subject of Nepal, or A subject of Bhutan, or
  • Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania ( Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar ), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Selection Process : 

The Indian Forest Service Examination 2018 comprises two successive stages -

  • Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) for the screening & selection of candidates for Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination; and
  • Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates against the vacancies identified and reported for the Indian Forest Service Examination.

Application Fee : 

All Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay fee of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of State Bank of India or by using Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card or by using Internet Banking of SBI. Applicants who opt for "Pay by Cash" mode should print the system generated Pay-in-slip during part II registration and deposit the fee at the counter of SBI Branch on the next working day only. "Pay by Cash" mode will be deactivated at 23.59 hours of 05.03.2018 i.e. one day before the closing date.
